Despite the weather being more suited to sponsored snooker and darts, so many of you have donned the waterproofs and tackled amazing physical challenges to raise money for Cystinosis Foundation UK. Here are some of the highlights from the “summer” so far!
Sheffield walk 2012
Well done to Mark Hewitt and friends (including Paul and Paula Ingram, parents of Harley) who repeated their successful 11 mile walk around Sheffield from last year, taking in all three major football grounds in the city. Amount raised to be confirmed but, as you can see from the photo (attached), the rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the Wallies!
Three Peaks
Massive thank you to the joint team from Barclays and Source Developments who raised thousands of pounds in donations and matched corporate funding by tackling the mighty Three Peaks challenge in June. Starting at 5 p.m. on the Friday at the foot of Ben Nevis, by 6 p.m. the following day, the bulk of the team were peeling off their waterlogged socks in the car park at Snowdon base camp. The conditions were nothing short of treacherous, particularly when climbing the highest mountain in England in the dark – well done all!
Cardgains Challenge
And, finally, a quick update from the Cardgains Challenge previously reported on this site, which involved a 30k loop around London. All walkers completed the event with times ranging from 6 to 10 hours. They have also raised thousands of pounds for cystinosis research, and had a enjoyable, if slightly soggy, day in the process!
Thank you so much to everyone who sacrificed their time, energy and foot health to raise so much money for CFUK. Your efforts are very much appreciated by the Trustees and the beneficiaries of the research that these events will fund.
