April has been a big month for the Foundation and its supporters. We have had a significant number of big events happening and to quote our treasurer, Gareth Jackson, "The latest total is £227,224.27 and lots more just keeps coming…".
We are so grateful to everyone who has taken part in fundraising activities – from the individuals running alone to huge groups of walkers. Martin Kemp has beaten his fundraising target of £2,500 in last Sunday’s London Marathon. Diane Lakin took to skydiving with her daughter raising over £3,000. Jessica Kemp raised over £380 shaving off her hair and waxing her partner’s chest (if they hit £400, the legs get waxed too). Finally, the Sheffield Walk just grew and grew from its initial concept of a small group of friends to over 60 people undertaking the 11 mile route – at last count over £8,000 had been raised so far.
Every individual deserves an individual thank you, but perhaps Mark Hewitt deserves a special mention. Mark, inspired to help his friends the Ingham family whose son has Cystinosis, was not only the chief organiser of the Sheffield walk, but also spent considerable time promoting the walk to local press. And whilst the walk is over for many, Mark is still busy assisting individuals collecting their sponsorship and post-event promotional activities. The time and effort Mark has had to put in has been massive. Thank you Mark!
Keep a look out for articles and pictures on these events in the coming weeks!
