On 9th April 2011, a bumper 11 mile sponsored walk will be taking place in Sheffield in support of the Cystinosis Foundation UK.
The walk starts at 9.00am at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium (but walkers should be there before 8.45am). It then continues to Don Valley, the home of Rotherham United, onto Bramall Lane, home of Sheffield United, then back to the finish at Hillsborough, via the Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Over 30 walkers have already joined the walk, with the number growing by the day and anyone is free to sign up and join in! The organisers are hoping that people will turn up in fancy dress on this fun day, and are also looking for ways to help promote the walk. The BBC’s Look North will hopefully be covering the event, as well as many other local papers, including the Sheffield Star.
In addition to the walk itself, it is hoped more funds can be raised through raffles and auctions for prizes kindly donated by local organisations. This includes a signed football shirt from Sheffield Wednesday and two match day tickets from Sheffield United.
The walk is being organised by Mark Hewitt, who wanted to support his best friends, Paula and Paul Ingham, whose 4-year-old son, Harley, was diagnosed with Cystinosis in January of this year. "Harley is a lovely lad, with such a great character" says Mark. " I am a massive football fan, and I wanted to do something around that topic".
Facebook members can find all the latest news on the walk from the A Walk For The Cystinosis Foundation group.
If you are interested in joining the walk please contact us, or you can support by making a donation direct to Mark or one of the many walkers.
The Cystinosis Foundation UK are very grateful to Mark for all his hard work in organising the walk and would like to wish everyone involved the very best on the day!
