We would like to thank and congratulate the Benford family in Derbyshire for organising a raffle on behalf of the Cystinosis Foundation UK and raising the fantastic total of £1,750!
The raffle was organised at the beginning of this year by David and Claire Benford, with the prize draw taking place on February 12th. Their daughter Darcy drew the winning tickets (pictured left). Darcy turned 5 this March and was herself diagnosed with Cystinosis at 10 months old.
Initially, 1,000 tickets were printed for the raffle with Claire’s mum, Mrs Ethne Wright, selling £250 worth of tickets. However, Mrs Wright raised a further £500 in donations from friends at Holywood First Presbyterian Church and also friends and family from in and around County Down, Northern Ireland. David and Claire would like to thank her for her efforts – “She worked very hard and people showed fantastic kindness and generosity to our charity”.
They would also like to thank David’s karate club (Shogun Karate) who sold tickets, donated £30 and sold £200 of wristbands, the parents of Harry Stockle and Campbell Morgan (both children have Cystinosis) as well as the many friends and family for their support and kind donations.
Finally, David and Claire would like to thank the following companies and persons for the donation of prizes:
David and Claire are both members of the Cystinosis Foundation UK and keen supporters of the Foundation’s research appeal: “We are desperate to help hit the £100k target”.
Following their successes with the raffle, they are now organising a further fundraising event – a self defence class in their local village hall in Walton on Trent, Derbyshire. If anyone is interested in attending this event, please contact David on 0870 2200494.
Furthermore, friends of the family are organising a cycle across Spain later this year and are currently looking for sponsors, particularly a sponsor to provide or lend a new touring cycle. If anyone is able to help in this matter, please contact David on 0870 2200494.
