How We Use The Funds Raised

The Cystinosis Foundation UK has low overheads and is staffed primarily by volunteers who work around full time jobs, families and other commitments. We fund 4 hours a week of admin support to maintain our website, our social media channels and respond to enquiries. As such we channel as much of our funds as possible towards research and supporting those with cystinosis.

Supporting Research

Research takes money and in 2004 we launched our campaign to raise £100,000 to enable us to fund several projects. In December 2006 we reached that target thanks to the many people who became involved in organising various fundraising events. This enabled us to commit to funding projects at Sunderland University and The Robert Gordon University (Aberdeen), as well as the Adult Cohort Study at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. In March 2012 we reached a milestone of £300,000, enabling us to continue that financial support. We continue to allocate funds raised by our generous and innovative community to relevant research projects.

Why We Need Your Help

In order to continue funding these projects and support others, we took the decision to set a revised target of £500,000. We can only commit to a project once we have actually raised all monies required to fully fund it and before research staff can be hired, equipment bought, etc.

Since 2004 we have raised over £450,000. A great achievement, but we still have a way to go. By making a donation or organising a fundraising event you can help us reach our goal. It is only through our supporters that we can hope to achieve our aims, and we hope you can see we are starting to make a difference.

Through the website and newsletters we will keep you informed of how research is progressing and how your efforts are making a difference.
