Luka Babiy, whose sister has cystinosis, is running the London Marathon this year despite never having previously ran a marathon. We are extremely grateful to Luka for choosing to raise money for us in this way. Good luck Luka, we hope the training is going well!
My name is Luka and I am a primary school teacher from London. This time last year I had never been running in my whole life and now I am running a marathon. It all started when my mum tried to persuade me that the two of us running the marathon together would be the best thing ever. I personally felt this was not a great idea, however we both went ahead and applied. Obviously, I got a place and she didn’t.
I thought long and hard about whether to accept, but decided that it was too good an opportunity to pass on. What better way to push myself to my limits and raise a huge amount of money for charity? My younger sister has Cystinosis and I know that she faces struggles everyday. If she can handle what she handles at the age of 7, then I can go for some runs and have a hard time for a few hours.
