On the 18th October, CLIMB held their annual conference. This year the focus was on "Mitochondrial and Peroxisomal Disorders" with presentations ranging from specific medical topics on stem cell research to more general sessions such as "How To Look After Yourself". Executive Director of CLIMB, Steve Hannigan, hailed the conference as an "unqualified success and the talks and speakers were all very well received". And as well as the formal programme, the conference included a trip to Dudley Zoo for the younger conference delegates.
A few weeks after the conference, on October 31st, an exclusive viewing of the new Bond film, Quantum of Solace, was held at the Reel Cinema, Crewe, during the film’s national release. Half the ticket proceeds and all the proceeds from the raffle and auction were donated to CLIMB, raising a total of £2,133. CLIMB would like to thank Reel Cinema manager, Alex Childs, for his assistance in organising the evening and all those who
donated prizes for the raffle and auction.
CLIMB are currently working towards their Round GB 4 Climb walker’s homecoming in Bognor Regis this Friday, which will see 71-year-old retired fire officer Colin Snook complete his epic 345 day, 4,000 mile walk around the UK. You can learn more about Colin’s walk at walkgb4climb.org.uk and donate directly at JustGiving.com
You can also support CLIMB locally – if you have a small Sainsbury store in your area (Sainsbury Local) keep your eyes open for their Support to Charity Nominations. They will be inviting staff and customers to nominate a charity to benefit from their community fundraising activities. Just be sure to put forward CLIMB’s name when you visit!
We’d like to congratulate CLIMB on the success of their conference and wish them good luck in all their activities.
