The Foundation is delighted to announce that it achieved its goal of raising £300,000. Since the original target of £100,000 was set in 2004, eventually increasing to £300,000 in 2010, a grand total of £312,261 (and 24 pence!) has been raised. This fantastic achievement is only possible thanks to the hard work of the many people who give up their time to run fundraising events and the generosity of those who support them. The vast majority of this money has been and will continue to be spent on research into improved treatments for cystinosis, including the work carried out at the University of Sunderland, which is producing very encouraging results.
Although we are immensely proud of the achievement of this milestone, we understand that there is much work to be done. We are therefore today setting a new target of £500,000. Although ambitious, we believe that this target is achievable and, if met, will help us fund more research into new and improved treatments.
The Trustees would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the total raised to date and everyone who will continue to push us towards the revised total of half a million pounds.
